Midlands - UK Rally has been set up to promote this new sport in the Midlands area and provide an environment where handlers can train their dogs with like minded people. We meet on Tuesdays in the Coventry area.

What is UK Rally?

Rally UK is an exciting new dog sport introduced into the UK by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). It aims to be accessible to all dogs and handlers with a basic level of training.

Unlike the traditional competitive Obedience we know in the UK the handler and their dog navigate the course with no verbal direction from a Steward. Instead they follow a course with numbered signs each indicating a different exercise. These exercises may be as simple as a Halt with the dog in the Sit Postion, a change of direction or an exercise on the spot such as walking round your dog while it remains in a Down postion. At Level 1 all exercises are performed with the dog on the lead. Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs while they are competing. UK Rally is a sport for people of all ages and is also ideal for those with disabilities. It is open to all dogs whether they are purebred, mixed breed or have a disability - they are all encouraged to participate.

This is a training group rather than a basic obedience class so all dogs should already be able to do the following:

walk on a loose lead have the 3 basic positions – Sit, Stand, Down a basic recall on lead with present and finishes be socialised with other dogs

Handlers should have familiarised themselves with the Level One exercises plus the UK Rally rules and regulations, which are available from the APDT website.

Midlands - UK Rally reserve the right to limit the group to dogs and handlers who meet the above requirements.

UK Rally is an APDT initiative and so Midlands - UK Rally works within the principles of the APDT. All handlers agree not to use harsh handling methods or punitive equipment.

There are a few other simple rules to help everyone to enjoy their training time.

• All handlers must pick up after their dogs and take their dog mess home with them


• Only dogs actually working at that time are allowed in the training hall.
